Librarians get sued

… by two publishing companies. Dale Askey wrote professional criticisms of Edwin Mellen Press while working as a librarian in the US. He now works in Canada and is being sued in that country. But will this case proceed or be thrown out? Jeffery Beale, who has authored a list of predatory publishers out to take advantage of acaedmics desperate to publish, is being sued by a Canadian group who are on the list. Beale has been asked (read ordered) by the group to remove their name. I’ve seen Beale’s list and agree with many of his inclusions. The publish or perish tenure track system is encouraging these types of publishers. http://chronicle.com/article/Librarians-Rally-Behind/137329/
